We are only days away from a very important election that has extreme consequences for our country and those all around the world. Each day I receive text messages, phone calls, e-mails, postcards, and advertisements on social media, television and radio. It seems there is no escape from the topic or the inevitable consequences that this election brings. People are preparing for a meltdown of sort as if we as American citizens have forgotten how to get along, communicate and respect each other. This is the perfect opportunity for the Christian to step up and be light in a dark world. I’d like to encourage you to remember a few things in the days ahead.
Remember, God is in control! No matter how the election turns and however that aligns with your political position in doesn’t change the sovereignty of God. The Bible tells us that God picks the rulers of this world to accomplish His will. Roman’s 13:1, “Every person is to be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” So, keep that in mind and put your trust in Jesus.
Remember your identity in all of this! People have aligned themselves with a political party so definitively that many have forgotten what’s important…humanity! God creates and He created you with a purpose. That purpose is to reflect His glory and let all the world see His love and greatness. When the leaders of the day commanded Peter and John to stop talking about Jesus they had this to say in, Acts 4:19-20, “ But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, make your own judgment; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” They didn’t let politics dictate their speech or behavior and you shouldn’t as well. The child of God should act like a child of God and be about their Fathers business. Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man”
Remember, this world is not your home. As a born-again, Jesus following Christian you are just passing through. Philippians 3:20, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Our time here on earth is so temporary. Remember this and live as a citizen of God’s Kingdom.
Go vote and vote biblical values but remember, God’s got this!
